About Australian Education
Australia is a federation consisting of six States and two Territories, each with its own government, and the overarching Australian Government. This political and legislative structure influences the division of responsibilities in the governance of Australian education and training. The Australian Government’s role is to develop national policies and strategies for education, whereas State and Territory governments are responsible for delivering education within their borders.
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website provides information on Australian Government policies, activities and initiatives.
